A Medal (メダル Medaru?) is a character-based object holding skills and Special Attacks you can utilize in Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ / Union χ.

Attack Medals are equipped to your Keyblade deck, allowing you to perform more powerful attacks than your Keyblade alone can inflict. Players can equip a maximum of 5 Medals depending on the strength of their Keyblade, plus one Friend Medal.

Support Medals are used to improve your Attack Medals, either by leveling up, evolving, or adding skills.

Buff Medals are used to greatly increase your damage output; Debuff Medals are used to reduce your enemies' defense. The buffs and debuffs can be stacked up to 7 times each.

  • Strength can be raised/lowered by up to 7 tiers.
  • Defense can be raised/lowered by up to 7 tiers.

There are separate strength and defense parameters for individual attributes as well. So you can also raise/lower attribute-based strength/defense by up to 7 tiers in addition to the regular strength/defense buffs and debuffs listed above.

Special Attacks

Main article: Special Attack

A Special Attack (アビリティ Abiriti?, lit. "Ability") is an attack attached to each Medal that requires a certain number of gauges to use. When the player has enough gauges, these Special Attacks can be unleashed by swiping the Medal toward the center of the screen. Special Attacks can be single target, all target, or random target, referring to the number of enemies struck by the attack. Some rare Medals might have an all-target Special Attack which is normally single target; these Special Attacks will have a higher gauge cost to activate.

  • For Medals that are rarity 3★ or higher, if you combine two of the same Medal of the same rarity, you can increase the power of its Special Attack. Each time you do this, a dot ○ will become filled in ●.
  • The number of dots that you can fill in depends on the Medal's rarity. A 3★ Medal can be strengthened to 1 dot ●, a 4★ Medal 2 dots ●●, a 5★ Medal 3 dots ●●●, and a 6★ Medal can be strengthened to a total of 5 dots ●●●●●.

Special Attack Bonus

The Special Attack Bonus (ギルト Giruto?, lit. "Guilt") is a trait found on 6★ Medals which have been strengthened with the Power Bangle, which is obtained in Quest 34.[1] A 6★ Medal's Special Attack Bonus can be unlocked by strengthening it one more time after the 5 dots have been filled in. The Special Attack Bonus is a damage bonus added on top of the damage multipliers the player earns by strengthening their Medal.

Different Medals have different Special Attack Bonus Tiers, which determine the range of the bonus received. When a Special Attack Bonus is applied, a value in that range is randomly chosen. By strengthening the medal with Fantasia Mickey B or an additional copy of that 6★ Medal, the Special Attack Bonus will be recalculated. If the new value is higher than the previous value, it will be kept, otherwise the previous value will be retained. Common Medals will have Level 1 Bonus, Normal Medals will have Level 2, Rare Medals will have Level 3, and Super Rare Medals will have either Level 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7.

Level Inactive Active Damage Increase During Campaign
Level 1 10-25% 15-25%
Level 2 20-50% 30-50%
Level 3 40-100% 70-100%
Level 4 60-130% 90-130%
Level 5 80-150% 100-150%
Level 6 100-180% 140-180%
Level 7 120-200% 160-200%

Nova

Main article: Nova

Nova (バースト Bāsuto?, lit. "Burst") is a type of attack that deals massive damage with no attributes to all targets but can only be used once per quest or Raid Boss battle. Nova can be used once the player has unlocked the Special Attack Bonus of at least one Medal. It can be activated by pressing the button on the top right of the screen at any point during the player's turn before the last Medal is played. The higher the Nova level, the more damage it deals.

Skills

A Skill (スキル Sukiru?) is a special passive ability that rarely appears on Medals drawn from the Shop deals, or which are added to Medals by fusing with a Scrooge Medal. Scrooge Medals can be found in Coliseum Boards, Premium Boards, or rarely as quest objectives (usually for Event Quests).

Skills can be transferred from one Medal to another through fusing. The Medal in the first slot has a chance of passing its skill on to the base Medal, starting at 20% at skill level 1 and increasing as the skill levels up to 100% at max level; Scrooge Medals will always have their skill level at maximum, barring a bug. Pressing the "Overwrite Skill" button in the fusing process turns this feature off (it is on by default).

To level up a skill, simply use the Medal as you fight enemies. Skills have a chance of activating when a Medal is used, or when a special condition is met. As a skill levels up, it has a higher chance of being triggered.

For skills that lower the cost of a Medal's special attack, the player must have enough gauges remaining for the special attack's original cost to activate it.

Traits

A Trait (覚醒能力 Kakusei Nōryoku?, lit. "Awakening Ability") is a special passive ability that can be obtained by fusing two of the same Medal together. The trait assigned to the Medal is randomly decided.

Every Medal has one or more slots to hold traits. Tiers 1-3 Medals have one slot while Tiers 4 and 5 have two slots. Tier 6 medals have three slots (with the exception of a few early medals.) When fusing another Medal to an existing Medal that has its trait slots filled beforehand, you can choose to overwrite one of the old traits for the new one, or keep them as they are.

All traits are stackable, with the exception of "Extra Attack: 40% Power", "Ground Enemy DEF -60%" and "Aerial Enemy DEF -60%".
